Government

U S flagsThe city has a commission-executive (Mayor-Council) form of government, governed by the state statute. The city council consists of eight elected council members. Two council members represent each of the 4 wards.  Each council member is elected for a 4 year term in office and has no reelection limit. The city council is responsible for determining the policy direction for the city. The Mayor is elected for a four year terms. The mayor, who is the chief executive, is in charge of carrying out that policy and administering the day to day affairs of the city government.

Glendive is a 3rd class city. The following officers

  • Mayor-Elected part time position- 4 year term
  • 2 councilmen from each ward- 4 year term
  • City Judge-Elected part time position- 4 year term

Appointments by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the council.
