The city has a commission-executive (Mayor-Council) form of government, governed by the state statute. The city council consists of eight elected council members. Two council members represent each of the 4 wards. Each council member is elected for a 4 year term in office and has no reelection limit. The city council is responsible for determining the policy direction for the city. The Mayor is elected for a four year terms. The mayor, who is the chief executive, is in charge of carrying out that policy and administering the day to day affairs of the city government.
